Types of Lighting

When you work with Illuminated Integration, you’ll be able to choose from:

  • Theatrical lighting: Whether you’re planning a presentation or performance, theatrical lighting plays a key role in setting the stage and creating the right mood. This type of lighting can include everything from projection mapping and video backdrops to lighting cues and special effects. Our theatrical lighting company makes it easier to enhance your space’s ambiance and deliver visual storytelling.
  • House lighting: While lighting is often an afterthought in home decor design, it is a crucial component in making your room a space where friends and family want to gather. Incorporating both direct and indirect lighting can transform your home into a warm, welcoming space. You’ll be able to create the right look that’s both functional and stylish.
  • Architectural lighting: From gathering spaces to offices to classrooms, quality lighting can create the exact look you’re aiming for. There are several different elements that play a part in setting the right ambiance, including the light’s warmth and strategic placement. With countless applications — from hospitality venues and restaurants to worship centers and religious buildings — our architectural lighting company has you covered.
  • Commercial lighting: Commercial lighting can be used for all kinds of purposes. The specific lighting you choose can help you design for functionality and aesthetics along with building purpose for your brand. Depending on your style and needs, we have several different types of commercial exterior lighting fixtures, including signage and logo lighting, pathway illumination, architectural facade lighting and accent lighting for architectural features.
  • Exterior lighting: Enhancing the aesthetics of your property is easy with exterior lighting. Adding lights in key areas like your gardens, deck or entryway can help you highlight architectural details. Along with enhancing the curb appeal, a well-lit exterior improves the safety — and value — of your home.
  • Thematic lighting: The lighting you choose can play a significant role in creating the right setting and atmosphere in a theater, restaurant or another expressive space. You can use lights to draw attention to a specific location or use them to create emotional connotations. From bright, cheerful settings to mysterious or spooky glows, your lighting setup can create an environment that supports your brand or space and creates the feeling you want.
  • Power and distribution systems: A power distribution system consists of several components, including distributor conductors, feeders and service conductors. It can be located either near or inside an industrial area of a city. These systems are powered by a transmission network and are capable of producing different amounts of voltage. With our assistance, you can design and build an effective system.
  • Controls: Our residential and commercial lighting company can also provide the necessary controls to effectively and efficiently manage your lighting. Easily adjust the settings according to your needs and preferences and gain unmatched control of your lighting elements.
  • Atmospherics: When you are trying to create a specific look in your store or on your stage, atmospherics can help bring your vision to life. Atmospherics can range from scents, like a cinnamon smell in a Christmas store, to the lighting environment, like soft lighting in a cafe. We can help design a lighting solution that achieves the atmosphere you want.
  • Cue light systems: Incorporating cue lights can have a big impact on the look of performances and presentations. These light systems are versatile, working well for signaling to actors or crew members or even adding an extra safety element on stage.

Qualites of Light

There are seven qualities of light every professional should fully understand. They are:

  1. Intensity: Intensity refers to how much light the background and performer is reflecting. Some factors that could influence lighting intensity include the wattage of your lamp, the size of the light pool, the type of instrument, the length of throw, how much electricity is getting to the lamp, the color of the gel and the reflectiveness of the costumes, make-up and setting.
  2. Color: This references the color or shade of the light the background and performers are reflecting. The color of the gel, costuming, setting and make-up can affect this, as well as the power of the lamp and the color temperature of the lamp and gel.
  3. Softness: Softness refers to whether the light wraps around an object to cast shadows with soft or hard edges. The softest lighting happens when your light source is larger than the subject, and hard lighting occurs when you use a light source smaller than your subject.
  4. Direction: The direction of lighting affects the shadows a performer and props around them cast. Where you place your instruments changes the angle of the lighting and the length and location of the shadows your audience sees.
  5. Texture: Texture refers to the quality of your lighting, such as whether it’s diffused or clear. You can change the light’s texture to affect whether shadows have soft or hard edges by using a gobo, diffusion gel or a specific type of light.
  6. Coverage: Coverage refers to how much a background, set item or performer is covered with your lighting. For example, during a soliloquy scene, you wouldn’t be lighting the entire stage — you would likely only be covering the performer, and maybe not even their entire body.
  7. Movement: Lighting movement refers to any changes in the above six qualities. Since lighting can alter the mood of a scene, most theatrical performances include several instances of movement. A light cue is one example.

The Design and Build Lighting Process

As a design-build AVL firm, our process for creating any lighting design, from architectural to theatrical, involves the following steps:

  1. Meet your team for an in-depth consultation.
  2. Discuss your goals, expectations and requirements for your integrated lighting design project.
  3. Explore your venue to map and measure it.
  4. Develop your original design through CAD and 3D rendering programs.
  5. Present your finalized draft, listening to your feedback and making any necessary changes.
  6. Install your new lighting system, providing support post-implementation.

Throughout every step, we encourage you to contact us if you have questions, ideas or concerns.

WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT US

I am the Technical Director at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, NJ. Illuminated did a complete overhaul of our audio system; replacing the speakers, sound board, infrastructure, 20 wireless body mics and receivers, and adding some plug and play XLR ports to the front of the stage which work off touchscreens in various places in […]

Tyler and Mike from Illuminated did a superlative job with our Frederico Theater. They started the project soon after signing the contract, they met every deadline, they had no change orders, they communicated clearly and often and their training sessions were superb. We could not have asked for a better partner for Holy Ghost Prep’s Frederico Theater.

At Dorney Park we have a 200’ tall attraction that had an antiquated lighting system. It was inefficient, and static color changes would consume a large amount of time from our team. Illuminated Integration proposed a solution utilizing technology from SGM Lighting for our attraction. The tower is not only much brighter than before, but now it […]
